On August 30th, 1912, the first chapter of Theta Phi Alpha was installed at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The ten founding ladies of this new women's fraternity set out to create an organization that would foster both eternal sisterhood and lifelong friendships. Their mission was to create close comradeship, and to advance the educational, social, and philanthropic interests of women. Furthermore, our founding sisters sought to encourage the spiritual development of all of our sorority's members, in hopes that each young lady would adhere to the highest of moral standards.
Over the years, Theta Phi Alpha has provided members with unique opportunities in areas involving leadership, scholarship, and community service, and has continued to provide sisters with a commitment to excellence in academic pursuits and social enrichment. In the early 1960's, our sorority opened its doors to women of all faiths, and now happily celebrates a proud tradition of religious diversity amongst its members.
